MBITA Strategic Alliance Program

The Monterey Bay International Trade Association (MBITA) has initiated a program to introduce, facilitate and then help consummate Strategic Alliances between California small to mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their foreign counterparts.

A strategic alliance business relationship between two companies stands to gain benefits by sharing risk and expenses while leveraging respective products, distribution channels, manufacturing capability, project funding, technology, capital equipment, knowledge, expertise or the intellectual property of each partner.  A Strategic Alliance can also improve the potential for funding as opposed to an individual effort by one company.

MBITA Strategic Alliance services include:

  • Identify, qualify and introduce California partners to selected foreign counterparts

  • Develop and study a potential Strategic Alliance’s feasibility, objectives and rationale, focusing on the major issues, challenges and development of resource strategies for production, technology, and people

  • Align the Strategic Alliance objectives with the overall corporate strategy of each partner.

  • Analyze a each partner’s strengths and weaknesses to create strategies that accommodate  both  partners’ management styles and motives for forming the Strategic Alliance

  • Help determine whether both partners have realistic objectives while defining each partner’s contributions and rewards

  • Advise legal team in the creation of the Strategic Alliance contract that protects any proprietary information, addressing termination clauses, penalties for poor performance and highlighting the degree to which arbitration procedures are clearly stated and understood.
