9:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Regional Sustainable Energy
Climate change is affecting our daily life. On a global level we should try to minimize these changes, but on a local level we should adapt to the changes that are ahead of us. This means a serious spatial task. The increasing energy prices are also an incentive for local energy supply. The province of Groningen, as a part of Energy Valley is researching the possibilities to supply the region with sustainable energy. The results show that the energy supply can be organized at different levels: regional, local, building. Examples wil be presented on energy potentials at a regional level, the societal spatial effects of energy prices, effects on a community level and the programs that are carried out on a building level. Finally the quality of the spatial lay out and building designs is steered by the energy potentials.

documenting and testing ventilation solutions in cooperation with leading specialists in
Denmark and other EU- countries. Furthermore, we are offering heat recovery
ventilation for housing, offices, institutions and industry. Our specialty is Innovative
Indoor Air Climate.
We have developed a new type of compact ventilation unit with counter flow heat
recovery ventilation (R200). It is only 22 cm thick and possible to install in a building
integrated way, for example in connection to a partition wall. Moreover it has a very low
electricity consumption and a very low noise level. The heat recovery efficiency of 85-90
% guarantees a satisfactory preheating of fresh incoming air, especially when the heat
recovery ventilation unit is placed inside the climate shield of a building.

10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.- PANEL I
BEST FOREIGN MARKETS FOR GREEN PRODUCTS AND SERVICES |
Every country has common challenges to clean their air and water, control and recycle their waste, implement energy saving methodologies and products, develop renewable energy sources and create sustainable communities. Some countries have specific and urgent environmental challenges where funds and resources have been allocated through government programs.
Panel I will feature experts who specialize in developing and implementing traditional and online marketing channels to identify global markets where your Green product, service, technology or expertise is in demand. Panel I will also present methods of how to conduct a cost-effective and successful global marketing strategy incorporating ‘on-the-ground’ trade promotion support from both public and private sector organizations in the U.S. and abroad. These trade promotion organizations can help your company form strategic alliances or joint ventures, export your product, service or technology or identify qualified foreign investment opportunities.

Daniel Robin, Founding Partner & Managing Director of Integrated Investments International (In3), will discuss the current state of the international biomaterials market and import/export opportunities for bioplastics and other green products, services and technologies. Governments, companies, and individuals alike are looking for ways to improve environmental performance, and they are looking for innovative American technologies to achieve their goals. Fueled by petroleum price shocks and regulatory trends toward registration and restriction of petrochemical products, biomaterials are experiencing explosive growth, already a multi-billion dollar industry. With an emphasis on current issues, key applications, and suppliers for these renewable materials, their advantages have been driving worldwide adoption by both multinational industrial users and retail giants such as Wal-Mart. Hear how to connect your business with export opportunities worldwide, specifically in the EU (especially Germany, Italy and France), Japan, Southeast Asia and China and how to enhance your contribution to global environmental stewardship, shared prosperity and your own bottom line.

11:45 a.m. – Noon - Energy Efficiency through Intelligent Controls
One very effective way to reduce energy consumption is by implementing a more intelligent control system that not only is able to turn on and off energy loads, but does so in an intelligent way. Integrating the multitude of control systems in a facility and having central monitoring and access can also reduce operational and maintenance costs. But this requires some fore-thought and planning. This session will explore the need for a facility energy control master plan and a unified system architecture using open, interoperable components.

LICENSE GREEN TECHNOLOGY IN FOREIGN MARKETS AND PROTECT YOUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY |
When expanding your company’s products and services into foreign markets the foreign licensing agreement is sometimes the best strategy. As someone once said, ‘a small piece of a big pie is better than a big piece of a small pie’. Implementing the right licensing agreement with the right foreign partner as opposed to exporting your finished product or technology can be very rewarding. Additionally, protecting your intellectual property by registering the trademark of your product in specific foreign countries is very important in your overall marketing strategy.
Panel II will have legal experts and negotiation professionals discussing the pitfalls and challenges of licensing a Green Technology or intellectual property in a foreign market. This panel will also explain how the complicated process of protecting your intellectual property through the foreign registration process of your product’s trademark can sometimes be daunting and expensive yet necessary for maximum success.
__________________________________________________________________
It is well known that Intellectual Property in China is an endangered species. Technology is reverse engineered or just copied, production methods duplicated, there are even cases where the logo and other marketing elements of a U.S. company have been appropriated. Using the example of American cleantech products, this is an introduction to the alternative forms of doing business in China, the relative risks and steps that can be taken to minimize those risks.

You, the Brand owner, must to take the legal steps necessary to protect your Intellectual Property (IP), both domestically and internationally. Your IP - your trademarks, service marks, copyrights, patents and trade secrets - may be your most valuable asset. In a global market, it is imperative that you protect your IP sooner rather than later, or someone else may beat you to it!

Negotiating a cross-border licensing agreement is challenging and sometimes tricky. Basic issues as the language of the document or the laws of the agreement could jeopardize the whole transaction. Cultural and legal systems differences make certain issues simply harder than they would be in any regular domestic transaction. How successfully negotiate these issues and yet remain satisfactorily protected is key to any company transacting overseas, especially when it involves IP assets.

Establishing a Presence in China for Marketing and Other Business Purposes: Joint Ventures versus Going It Alone. Historically, companies wanting to do business in China established joint ventures with Chinese companies for this purpose. However, with the liberalization of China’s economy, foreign companies can establish an independent legal presence in China for conducting business in most industries and these independent entities are increasingly popular. What types of legal entities can U.S. companies establish in China? What are the pros and cons of these independent entities versus joint ventures? Is a legal presence even necessary for a U.S. company to do business successfully in China?
