As Chairman of the Northern California Export Council, an affiliate of the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Service, I am proud to present this Northern California Global Trade Assistance Directory. By compiling an up-to-date listing of governmental and non-profit entities dedicated, entirely or in part, to assisting exporters to launch or expand their global efforts, we believe we have filled a major gap. Most of these agencies offer their services free or for nominal charges. Thus they can help firms with little cash to spare, but with major overseas market opportunities. It is commonly recognized that the existence of many of these organizations is often unknown to exporters, and their services are consequently underutilized.

Many have contributed to the compilation and distribution of this volume. Export Council interns, include Pascacio Rangel, Ayse Haskinaci, Jenny Linden, Mandy de Roche, Yong Chul Park, Roxanne Hokama, Lee Rosenfield and Ece Seckin. Their combined efforts were pulled together, verified, and rationalized by Esmeralda Holmen.

Export Council members who have made major contributions include Diane Burke for sponsor liaison, Roger Roberts in pulling together the content, and Edward Hinkelman and the World Trade Press for coordinating the copy layout and printing

The organizations listed in the Directory have very patiently and helpfully endured our repeated requests for clarification. And of course this publication would not have been possible without the five sponsors, and the assistance of the U.S. Commercial Service.

This Directory will be distributed free of charge, and we plan to make its contents available on more than one web site. Comments and suggestions for the next edition, planned for May, World Trade Month, 2001 will be welcome.

Jerry Levine,
Chairman Northern California Export Council
