|| The Monterey Bay International Trade Association (MBITA)(http://www.mbita.org), a non-profit public/private partnership dedicated to promoting small to mid-sized businesses in the global marketplace, today announced a trade conference event scheduled Tuesday, December 7th at the Monterey Hilton. The conference will focus on the various business opportunities available in Europe for the high-tech and telecommunication industries with a special presentation from the Boston U.S. Export Assistance Center.
Also, the knowledge of Eximbank programs among the exporting business community is often incorrect or incomplete. Leawood Export Finance will give a presentation addressing the current requirements for gaining access to Eximbank-enhanced credit support for foreign buyers. She will use a case study of a recent financing transaction to illustrate procedures to secure Eximbank financing assistance.
Guest speaker: Stephen C. Arlinghaus,
Regional Advisor Boston U.S. Export Assistance Center
Stephen C. Arlinghaus has been with the U.S. Department of Commerce since 1974 and a Foreign Service Officer in the Foreign Commercial Service since its creation in 1980. Before taking up his current Boston-based assignment, he was Minister-Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels. In that capacity he was responsible for commercial relations between the U.S. and the 15 member states of the European Union. During his tenure, 1994-1997, agreement was reached between the U.S. and EU on the mutual recognition of product testing and certification, affecting over $50 billion in two-way trade.
Guest speaker: Kathy Williams
Executive Vice President of Leawood Export Finance
Kathy Williams, Executive Vice President of Leawood Export Finance, heads up the company’s Silicon Valley Office in San Francisco. Leawood Export Finance was established as an export finance and trading company in 1994. Leawood acts as a principal (not a broker) offering both short and medium term financing through Eximbank facilities under own discretionary lending facilities and, for medium term financing, through their Master Guarantee Agreement (MGA) with Eximbank. Leawood is the only non-bank in the U.S. which benefits from a proprietary MGA directly with Eximbank. They can provide the same range of Eximbank-guaranteed financing services as any commercial banking operation, often with more agility and flexibility.
