Mr. Ernest Garcia, CEO, Direction 21, San Francisco - Keynote Speaker
Mr. Garcia will speak about \'US/Vietnam Business and Trade\', providing general information about Vietnam, and will present highlights of the US/Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement. He will present information about Vietnamese import opportunities, emphasizing Vietnamese goods that can compete in the US marketplace. The presentation will cover foreign investment into Vietnam as well as opportunities for American businesses exporting from the United States.
Mr. Garcia established Direction 21 in 1999 after extensive east Asia studies that led him to business in China. His career has focused on strategic business analysis. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. He holds an MBA, and over the past year his company has extended its business interests into Vietnam.
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, Trade Consul, Consulate General of Vietnam in San Francisco
Mr. Tran will speak about the importance of US/Vietnamese relations and trade, and will highlight some of the key trends that American business people should note about Vietnam. He will include remarks about American investments in Vietnam as well as remarks about Vietnam as a tourist destination.
Mr. Tran has an extensive background in the field of international trade, including most recently the position of Commercial Attaché of the Embassy of Vietnam in the United States. In May 2005 he was appointed as Trade Consul of the Consulate General of Vietnam in San Francisco. Mr. Tran holds a BA in Commerce, as well as a post graduate diploma.
Ms. Michelle Moquin, Owner and Apparel Designer, MOQ Designs, San Francisco
Ms. Moquin will speak about doing business in Vietnam. Presently her full line of apparel designs are manufactured in Vietnam, and her company is making sales of $500,000 per year in the US -- with expectations of 20% growth in 2006. Ms. Moquin will highlight how her business efforts have led her to be successful in the Vietnamese domestic market with her products soon to be selling in over 100 stores throughout Vietnam.
Ms. Moquin is a native San Franciscan. She is an artist and a commercial designer, she attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and she has taught \'Creative Design Applications\'. One of her great opportunities came in 1995 when she worked as a costume designer for two of her favorite film producers, Francis Ford Coppola and Ron Howard.
Mr. Phan Son Truong, Assistant Regional Manager, Vietnam Airlines, San Francisco
Mr. Phan will speak about Vietnam Airlines travel service, and the increased travel that is taking place between California and Vietnam -- particularly after December 2001 when a VN Airlines office opened in San Francisco. Mr. Phan will highlight the contribution of this airline company in the economic development of Vietnam.
Mr. Phan has fourteen years of experience with Vietnam Airlines, including management positions in Hanoi, Hong Kong, and San Francisco. Mr. Phan holds an MBA from Manchester University. He assisted in the opening of the VN Airlines office in San Francisco, in 2001, where he has been the Assistant Regional Manager from that time forward.
